Five
Faces
Do multiple faces mean automatic super-villain status?
++++
I am nothing if not a mad scientist, had I any talents in biology or any sort of life sciences I would be the guy in a lab that accidentally created a super hero/villain out of myself and at this moment a blockbuster movie would be in production about my life. It would be a massive success and I would be stumbling out of the car with Paris Hilton as we speak… and my wife would be pissed but she’d understand because I wasn’t myself, it was the mad science that made me freak out.
Alas, I have no biology skills whatsoever… but that doesn’t mean I can’t mess around in a digital lab.
Earlier today I thought to myself, what if I took five beautiful women and combined them into one face. Would the resulting image be some sort of super-villain or simply an ode to the simple beauty that exists in every face, in every girl, in every country of the world. You be the judge.
🙂
Athur Batut was the man who invented the firsts “portrait type”. The technique was a morphing from a whole family’s faces (or a village) to look if the “new” portrait was a “type” from the whole group.
Have a look at this : http://www.espacebatut.fr/
I’m working near this museum 😉
interesting! i would like to see another example (:
Gabs,
Thanks for that great link!
i cant stop staring!
Fascinating how the new image has an angelic & pure quality about it.
@Gabs – Cool link on Arthur Batut. He did that without Photoshop!
Woah! hot!
Very interesting! Great job JG:-).It`s just amazing how you can manipulate 5 photos into one! Your work is exellent,everything!:-)
Well that’s what I like to call “Super Cool!”
I’ve found with this, is that there is a certain face that may be “stronger” than the others and even though mixed with others is still predominant. The lower half is predominantly #5 and the top half still has a lot of her there.
But it is a new face nonetheless. Try squinting, it makes it even more powerful.
It does seem to me that the compilation image is more surreally perfect “beautiful” than any one individual model’s photo. It would be interesting to make a sci-fi film using a heroine character that is an amalgamated video of multiple beautiful females. I’d love to see some more.
wow, I certainly agree with sterling tht it has an angelic look, did u change the layer modes or just the opacity? if u went for the layer modes I’dve imagined it would have been more abstract? good work. thanks for the blog.
xx
Ed,
To get all 5 images to be equally (or at least nearly equally) represented I had to incorporate a couple methods including a different opacity for each layer as well as some tinkering with a layer mode or two.
That’s long way for super-villain.. Unless by villain you mean pure beauty.
Great idea to try, I have a friend that for his masters did the same thing but with about 3000 people – He tried to find the average face.
I must say that your five look WAY better 🙂
You’re not the first one to wonder about this…check out Face Research – http://www.faceresearch.org/demos/average
Steven that link is REALLY cool! Thanks!
It is quite interesting. I never thought about this and the examples are pretty right.
da best. Keep it going! Thank you
Try averaging these faces

I can’t find the video tutorial you posted a while back about how to fake an HDR image. Repost?
Thanks! I love your work!
Striking photos! So professionally done! Beautiful and expressive!
I recently followed a TV report about a piece of experimental software that is capable of judging ‘beauty’ like humans do. I suppose that PortraitProfessional uses similar algorithms to sculpture faces.
Anyway, I don’t think that your ‘creature’ is the sum of the five models – and that’s good. Phew! Then, however, I followed the link that Steven posted and fell in love with my result. 😀
Excellent items from you, man. I have bear in mind your
stuff previous to and you’re simply extremely excellent. I actually like what you have bought right here, really like what you are saying and the way in which by which you are saying it. You are making it enjoyable and you still take care of to keep it wise. I can’t wait to read far more
from you. That is actually a terrific website.
