Welcome (about 10 minutes)
Jake Garn Photoshoot (about 20 minutes)
Watch Jake Garn perform a photoshoot with a professionally styled, experienced model from beginning to end. During this shoot Jake Garn will pretend the class isn’t there so you can observe his actual interaction with the model.
Introduction (about 20 minutes)
- Introduce the creative team that makes it all happen
- Tips on finding models, hairstylists, makeup artists and wardrobe stylists to shoot with
- Tips on organizing photo shoots with models and stylists
- Finding your unique style
Posing Module (about 20 minutes)
- Conversation techniques during the shoot
- Differences in working with new models or experienced models
- Posing for the light
- Posing to eliminate unflattering angles and wrinkles
- Posing to emphasize strongest features
Lighting Module (about 20 minutes)
- Shooting in Natural Light
- Shooting with Artificial Light (strobes – hot lights – modifiers)
- Discussing different light setups
- Reading a histogram
Jake Garn Talks you Through A Photoshoot (about 30 minutes)
Jake Garn will demonstrate another actual shoot from start to finish, this time interacting and discussing different concepts with the class.
Hands on Shoot assisted by Ryan Muirhead and Jake Garn (about 3.5 hours)
We will break off into separate groups of four people each and you will have the opportunity to apply what you learned with professional lighting, professional models, and a professional styling team.
- Each participant will have the opportunity to shoot two separate models in two different light setups for 25 minutes each
- Freestyle group photo session (shoot multiple models under hot lights red-carpet style)
- Professional wardrobe stylist, makeup artist and hairstylist from my hand-picked creative team all on-set
- Signed model releases so you can use the images in your own portfolio
Q and A with the Creative Team (about 30 Minutes)
The professional styling team made available for any questions you have.
Editing and Processing Raw Images with Adobe Lightroom (about 30 minutes)
We will settle back into a classroom setting as Jake Garn demonstrates how he uses Adobe Lightroom as part of his workflow
- Jake will show you how he sorts and selects the final images
- Advantages of RAW vs. JPG
- Color correction and fine tuning techniques
- Using and Creating Presets
Retouching with Adobe Photoshop (about 1 hour)
- Destructive vs. Non-destructive editing techniques
- Fixing Skin
- Dodging and Burning (multiple techniques)
- Using Photoshop Actions
- Using Curves/Layers
- Using Layer Masks
- Replacing an image background using photoshop plugins
