A week or two ago I announced I was accepting applications for a free test shoot. Dozens responded and so far one was chosen.

On a random afternoon we took advantage of some natural window light, along with my new favorite toy - the fog machine.
The serenely beautiful Deeana May was a pleasure to shoot. She lives in California but I was lucky enough to catch up with her on her trip to Utah. I can’t thank her, and her husband, enough for taking time out of a busy trip for a shoot!

At first I thought Kelli was crazy, but then I realized she’s just awesome. Here are the results of our first test shoot. Creating these was an INSANE amount of fun.
I switched equipment several times during the shoot, but this is what we mostly used.
Sometimes Photoshop is kind of used as a bad word, but I find it to be a fabulous conceptual tool… to me photography can be a beautiful way to capture a moment authentically, however, expressing an idea should never be limited to only capturing authentic moments. I love bringing whimsy into my images, and I don’t care if that whimsy comes from real-world objects, or visual surprises created after the fact.
Elements of both styles are conveyed in this test shoot with Demi from last week, I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as we enjoyed making them!
Most of these were lighted using an Elinchrom Beauty Dish as the main light – which carves Demi’s face so, so beautifully.
A couple weeks back Lindsey and Michelle came to visit. Since it also happened to be Michelle’s birthday Lindsey brought some delicious cupcakes and party favors.
This is the result of our labors… kudos to the two of them for the best expressions EVER!

The last couple of weeks have been very good, model-wise. I shot two different models for the first time that I’m confident (and hopeful) will make a lot more photos over the next few years by both myself and other photographers.
